Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about our trains and Simulator ride in Griffith Park

You can purchase in-person tickets the day you plan to ride, or in advance at our ticket booths at either location. Our day train and Simulator tickets are not specific to a day or time, and are honored anytime the day ride is open. We do not offer online purchase for our regular train rides. There is no need to call ahead or to reserve a spot. If you have a very large party (10 or more) and are concerned about getting on the train, please reach out and we’ll be happy to chat about your needs.

We pride ourselves in offering a wholesome, welcoming experience at a low cost.

Tickets for our trains and Simulator are $3.00 to $5.00 depending on ages. Children 18 months and younger ride the trains free with a paying adult. You can find ticket price details here

We offer a non-refundable value package of 20 or more tickets at $3 a piece ($60 minimum), that is suitable for large parties, groups, or your favorite engineer who loves to ride the trains over and over. You can purchase these tickets directly from our Staff at the ticket booths at either location.

Wheelchairs and assistive devices can be brought to our platform, and up to the train seat.

However, because our train cars are antiques, they are unable to accommodate a wheelchair or assistive devices on board. From the platform, a person must be able to lift themselves, or be assisted, to step up 8 inches to settle into the train car safely.

Our Simulator ride is wheelchair accessible up to the entrance steps. From there, a person must be able to step up or be assisted up three steps, several inches high, to sit comfortably in the row of seats.

If you have further questions, or if we can be of assistance, please contact us for more information.

There is ample free parking in the lots at both locations within Griffith Park.

Travel Town has a large enclosed lot that can accommodate trailers and large vehicles in addition to small cars. At Griffith Park & Southern RR we are adjacent to a large narrow lot along with an overflow lot several yards away, but within walking distance of the trains.

So glad you asked! Our trains have been around since 1948, and we are owned and operated by the family-owned GP Rah Enterprises, LLC.

We are not affiliated with the Live Steamers, a club of train enthusiasts who volunteer their time to give guests rides at their facility on Zoo Drive.

We are not affiliated with, or owned by the Pony Rides (closed in Dec 2022) who are adjacent to our train rides.

We are not affiliated with the Griffith Park Snack Bar, although in mid 2023, the Snack Bar (now known as Griffith Cafe) is under new management with new hours, and new food and beverage offerings (yum!). Our neighbors are operated by individual businesses and although we work together when possible, we are completely separate entities.

The Griffith Park Cafe (under new management in 2023), is located between the trains and ponies on Crystal Springs Drive. Open most days of the week at 8am, they offer breakfast all day, craft coffee drinks, boba teas, sandwiches, sweet treats, and more. The Travel Town Museum Gift Shop has limited snack options available on the weekends only.

There are also several concessions within the park and local restaurants and eateries throughout the area, as well as several places to picnic around our facilities.

We love our pets! Unfortunately, with the exception of service animals, pets or animals of any kind or size are not allowed on our trains. Pets are allowed in the park, if on a leash or kept contained at all times.

Good news! We offer rentals of party and picnic areas at Griffith Park & Southern Railroad at 4400 Crystal Springs Drive. You can find all the information here.

For parties at Travel Town go to reg.laparks.org, register as a new user and then search for Travel Town and the date you wish to have a party. Call the City of Los Angeles at 323-662-5874 for more information.

For other locations in the park call the Park Rangers at 323-913-4147.

The City of Los Angeles requires permits for anyone seeking to take photographs, video, or filming for COMMERCIAL PURPOSES within Griffith Park. Personal photos and videos are exempt. You can find more information about the permits and fees at the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks

Our trains leave every 20 minutes or so. There is occasionally a line to board, but the wait time is minimal.

Each train ride is approximately 10 minutes long.

Travel Town Railroad located at 5200 Zoo Dr, takes passengers  around twice on an approximate 1/2 mile loop within the outdoor Travel Town Museum, past historically significant locomotives and passenger cars.

Griffith Park & Southern Railroad at 4400 Crystal Springs Dr, takes passengers over bridges, through a long tunnel, and past the facade of an Old West Town while making its way around a 1 mile loop within the park.

So glad you asked!

Our Doron T-6 Simulator is a fun and popular ride for passengers 2 years and older. It simulates the action you see happening on the screen! Built on a hydraulic platform that shimmies, dips, and rocks in sync with the adventure movie, passengers get to experience the thrill of a roller coaster, or an underground race through attics and between walls.

The T-6 Simulator is located at Griffith Park & Southern RR at 4400 Crystal Springs Dr., and tickets are $5 each. We are currently showing “Roller Coaster” and “Rats Race”.

Great! We’d love to hear from you.
