Party & Picnic Area Reservation Information

Our outdoor party & picnic enclosures are dressed up with one-of-a-kind painted facades of a western town (Coyote Meadow) or dressed up with colorfully painted locomotives and cars for the perfect train themed party (Oak Grove).

Each reservation of our outdoor enclosures include the following:

  • 20 train tickets that can be used any time at either of our ride locations – no expiration!
  • An attendant to help with set up, break down, and to answer questions you may have
  • 20′ x 20′ canopy shelter
  • Two picnic tables that seat up to 20 people
  • Options available for add-on party packages, additional seating and tables, and more!

Oak Grove Rental Rates

Oak Grove is a large enclosure on the south end of our property, past the former Pony Ride corrals. Decorated with colorful train facades and a ticket booth, it is perfect for children to play pretend. Shaded most of the day by a large California Coastal Oak, and a 20 foot fabric canopy. Oak Grove has two metal picnic tables with attached benches, and is adjacent to a large grassy area outside of the fence. 

Coyote Meadow Rental Rates

Coyote Meadow is a large, colorful enclosure close to all the action. A short walk to the train station and Griffith Park Cafe, Coyote Meadow has a hand-painted, one of a kind western facade that is perfect for photos. Shaded by a large, 20 foot canopy, it has two metal picnic tables with attached benches and a decomposed granite surface. Plenty of room for games, extra tables and chairs, as well as an additional shelter or tent.

Our Party & Picnic areas consist of two outdoor enclosures available for rent – Oak Grove and Coyote Meadow.

Each is equipped with a large shelter for shade, and picnic tables that seat up to 20 people. When available, additional seating and tables can be provided for a small fee. 

Also included with each reservation are 20 train tickets, (with the option to purchase additional tickets), discounted Simulator rides, a party attendant to answer questions and help with set-up, and add-on birthday party packages for your favorite train engineer.

We have several options for you! Please keep in mind how much time you will need to set up or break down your gathering before choosing your time period. We do not provide additional set up or break down time.

  • 2 hours = Perfect for a short gathering such as a staff meeting, or picnic.
  • 3 hours = Popular for pre-school age birthday parties or a family picnic reunion. 
  • 4 hours = Our most popular rental, this is a great value that gives you plenty of time to set up, break down, and still enjoy time with loved ones at your gathering.
  • All day (7 hours) = Our most flexible option, giving you access from 10am until closing. Perfect as a “base camp” when you have a large group in the park, enjoying different activities throughout the day.

Other than facades, and how they are sited on the property, each enclosure has many of the same features. Both are surrounded by composite fencing, have a lockable gate, and are surfaced with decomposed granite. 

 

Oak Grove is furthest from the train station, and is sited closer to the tracks and a grassy area. It is also shaded most of the day by a large California Coastal Oak. 

 

Coyote Meadow is closest to the train station, and is sited between Crystal Springs Drive and the former Pony Ride corrals. A small grassy area is situated on the north side of the enclosure.

Yes! You are welcome to bring your own food, party decor, park appropriate games, additional shelters, seating and tables. It’s our priority that you are comfortable and enjoy being in the beautiful outdoors of Griffith Park.

Piñatas: You are welcome to bring piñatas for your party, but you MUST clean up all candy, toys, papers, and everything else that makes piñatas lovely, but messy. This is for the safety of our wildlife, and out of courtesy to all park patrons. If you do not clean up thoroughly, we will assess a clean up fee. Please note that piñatas must have a stand, as they cannot be looped around our shelters or in the park’s trees. If you do not have a stand, we can provide one to you for a small fee. 

Bounce/Moon Houses: Everybody loves a good bounce around. Griffith Park allows inflatable bounce and moon houses with a permit. These may be set up on the grassy areas in the park, and outside of the enclosures (aka corrals). They are NOT permitted inside the enclosures, and they MUST be arranged directly with the park

We are sorry, but no live animals for entertainment are allowed within our enclosures or on our premises. 

Our neighbors who operate the Griffith Park Cafe located adjacent to the party areas, offer a variety of foods, craft coffees, and catering options for your gathering. Besides offering what is on their regular menu, they can create special options based on your needs. Please contact Griffith Park Cafe directly regarding catering and menus.

In addition, you may bring your own food, or arrange catered offerings with many of our local restaurants and cafes in the area. We are sorry, but there cannot be food preparation on site.

We provide shelter and seating for up to 20 people with your reservation, and can provide for a small fee, additional chairs and tables if available, for up to 20 more people. Maximum capacity for each outdoor enclosure is 40 people.

Because we operate within a public urban park, and we have a contract with the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks, there are certain rules and regulations we must adhere to. 

  1. No alcohol, recreational drugs, or smoking is allowed within Griffith Park.
  2. All animals must be leashed or contained in Griffith Park.
  3. No pets or animals, except for trained service dogs, are allowed on our trains or in our Simulator.
  4. No open flames are allowed.
  5. Food cannot be cooked or prepared onsite. Assembly of prepared food is allowed.
  6. No amplified music is allowed. Small, bluetooth speakers for ambient music is allowed. Live, acoustic music is allowed.
  7. Bounce or Moon houses may be set up on the grassy areas outside of the corrals provided you have a permit from Griffith Park. They are not allowed within the enclosures.
  8. No petting zoos, or animals used for entertainment are allowed on our premises or within our enclosures.

No, these areas do not have access to water or electricity. Please plan accordingly. 

Reservations may be made or modified online by following the booking link on this page. We do not take reservations over the phone or in-person at either of our locations. If you have a question or need additional help, please email our team at events@griffithparktrains.com

Good to Know: 

● Full payment is due at the time of your reservation. If you must cancel your reservation for any reason, there is a non-refundable 5% cancellation fee assessed regardless of when you cancel.

● Please review our reservation and cancellation policy prior to booking your reservation. 

● Our outdoor facilities are located in a beautiful, urban park. There is no access to electricity or water on the premises. Please plan accordingly.

● Public restrooms are available adjacent to the Snack Stand.

Reservation details: 

Your reservation starts and ends for the time period booked. We cannot allow grace periods for set up and break down. An attendant will be available to assist with both set up, clean up, and to answer any questions you may have. 

There are three parking lots close to the party areas, with a small one directly adjacent, and two others a short walking distance near the trains.

Full payment is due at the time of your reservation. Full refunds, less the 5% cancellation fee, may be made up to 2 weeks prior to your reservation date. A partial refund is available if canceled 10 days in advance. There are no refunds for reservations canceled less than 10 days prior to your reservation. 

Setting up your event: 

Please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled reservation time. Our attendant will be available to you to help with the setup and respond to any questions you may have. 

Cleaning up and breaking down your event: 

We have the good fortune of operating in a unique, natural habitat in the middle of Los Angeles. We ask that all of our guests do their part to clean up after themselves for the safety and care of this natural environment. You will have an attendant available to assist with set up and clean up, but the ultimate responsibility to ensure a cleaned space will belong to the customer. 

1. Trash and recycling must be placed in the provided containers. 

2. Please carry out all unused or uneaten food and beverages as we are unable to safely compost food scraps at our facility. 

3. Please do not leave behind decor, paper goods, games, seating or any items you may have brought with you. 

4. If our attendant or staff must clean-up after your event, dispose of uneaten or left behind food, you will be charged an additional $50 cleaning fee.

Cancellation details: 

Important: There is a 5% cancellation fee regardless of when the reservation is cancelled.

  • Up to 14 days prior to the reservation date: 95% refund (less the 5% cancellation fee)
  • Up to 10 days prior to the reservation date: 45% refund (less the 5% cancellation fee)
  • Less than 10 days prior to the reservation date: no refunds*

 *In the event of rain (enough that we cannot operate our train), we will offer a complete refund  or make every effort to arrange an alternative date at no extra charge.
